The stacking feature allows the user to combine datasets into a single graph.

Here is an example of three IPSLA latency tests:

  1. Latency test from Customer in South Africa to NNI point
  2. Latency test from NNI point to NNI point
  3. Latency test from NNI point to Customer in Kenya

These three tests measure the latency individually but if you were interested in seeing the end-to-end latency you can stack those individual graphs into a single graph.

The same will work for any data set in Iris, from stacking multiple CPUs on servers to QoS policy maps.

How to configure stacking

Each stack is generated manually based on the type of stack and the number of mnemonics you want to stack.

When opening the Stacks page, you will be presented with a list of configured stacks. You can either edit the existing stacks or create a new one by clicking on the + in the top right hand corner of the page.

Clicking on the + opens the Create a new Stack modal. Start by giving the stack a name. This name will be the mnemonic and a searching item in Iris.

Choose the type of stack from the drop-down list. Select the menu option Stacks. In this case it will be IPSLA stacks.

Choose the data type.

Auto complete the device name on which the test is configured; then auto complete the tag or test name and click Add. Once all the tests you wish to stack have been added, click Save.

Now that the stack has been created, you are able to search for the stack name in Iris to display the graph of the stack. It can also be added to reports and assigned to views.
